Originating in the highlands of the Guji Zone within Ethiopia's Oromia region, Shakiso coffee traces its agricultural history to ancient semi-forest ecosystems where Coffea arabica evolved naturally. For generations, local Oromo smallholder farmers have cultivated these native trees under dense forest canopies, blending traditional forest-garden management with modern processing advancements.

While historically lumped under the broader Sidama classification, Shakiso gained independent acclaim following the formal establishment of the Guji zone in 2002.

Grown at high elevations, the cool temperatures force a slow maturation of the coffee cherries, resulting in exceptionally dense beans loaded with complex sugars.
